101015 JYJ ‘Faceless Singers With Explosive Album Sales’

SM Entertainment has filed an exclusive contract suspension and album sales prohibition injunction to the Seoul District Courts on the 8th against JYJ.

Also, the ‘Korean Federation of Pop Culture and Arts Industry’ sent an official notice to KBS, MBC, SBS, cable TV companies, and album and online music distribution companies that says to refrain from aiding JYJ in their activities.

Contrary to this, the viewers’ thread of music program ‘Music Bank’ was hit with over 1000 new posts in two days.

The majority of the titles and content of theses posts called for JYJ’s appearance on ‘Music Bank’.

JYJ released their album ‘The Beginning’ on the 14th and recorded 220,000 pre-orders for their normal edition album and 300,000 pre-orders for their special edition album that will be released on the 18th. Considering the fact that an album is considered a hit in Korea if album sales surpass 100,000 copies, and that the most someone has sold recently was just over 200,000 copies, it is evident that JYJ’s album sales are superior compared to that of other singers.

Many are curious to see if JYJ, who have blown life into the Korean album market for the first time in a couple of years, will become ‘faceless singers’ or if they will appear on next week’s ‘Music Bank’ and change the fans’ requests into words of thanks.

I hope they really do some promotions by guesting on music shows and variety shows. I really want to see them preform in Music Bank, Inkigayo and Music Core again.

SM Town rocks Billboard chart

A blockbuster concert by a group of K-pop singers from SM Entertainment a month ago earned the 10th ranking in the Billboard Boxcore chart, published on Oct. 9, the Yonhap news agency reported Friday.

SM Town Live Tour, which was featured on Sept. 12, brought 15,015 fans to the Staples Center in Los Angeles, the United States, marking $1,101,582 of ticket sales.

The Boxcore chart took the following factors into consideration: overall popularity evaluated after overseas performances for the last three months, ticket sales and the size of audience recorded by performance promoters around the world.

SM Town toppled pop celebrities such as Shakira, Sting, Justin Bieber and Guns N’ Roses, who ranked 16th, 20th, 24th and 27th, respectively. It is surprising that artists officially ranked from 1-9 in the music chart have performed more than twice, while the SM Entertainment performed just once, an official from SM Entertainment stressed.

“It is very rare for K-pop singers to enter top 10. Through the landmark performance in Los Angeles, we saw would-be potentials for both SM and its artists,” an official from SM Entertainment said. At the stadium, a group of SM musicians such as Boa, Kangta, TVXQ, Super Junior, ShiNee appeared on the 9/12 music showcase, each showcasing their hit numbers. The SM Town Live Concert is slated for January in Tokyo, South Korea’s largest entertainment agency added.
