When I went to Vienna not long ago- the room in which Joseph used to work was quite memorable. The room was full of portraits of Sissi and there was even a portrait of her on his desk. They say that the emperor, who was always busy because of all~ the duties he had to complete for everyone, would solace himself with the portrait of his loving wife..
Ah… It’s so sweet..ㅠㅠ
So my heart aches when I hear the lyrics that Joseph sings in the last scene of the first act.. “I can’t survive withohout your love.. I’ll do everything you want me to, just the way you want it.. Though emotions are forbidden for emperors, I will give it all up. I don’t need all the responsibilities that I have. I will betray myself~”
Sigh,, but,,
Just because someone’s the emperor, doesn’t mean he can have everything he wants or give up when he feels like it…
That’s what breaks my heart..ㅠ-ㅠ
Here’s another interesting story that you might like to hear, that I heard when I was in Vienna..
In the secret room that really existed (The room that comes up in the ultimatum of the first act is that secret room. In that scene, poor Joseph knocks on the door after washing up and wearing a pretty gown to spend an intimate night with his wife ㅠㅠ), Sissi spent a lot of time hiding there, teaching herself Hungarian (There are lyrics in the cafe scene of the first act that talks about this, right?! “Sissi chatters in Hungarian~ And that makes Sophie mad~”) and they say that she wrote many poems about ‘death’ when she was so lonely and worn out. Could it be that to her, the scary world of death seemed to be vaguely full of freedom…
Sissi, who spent her life in despair and hopelessness because she couldn’t handle anything with her own strength, realized that ‘beauty’ could become an influence, even in politics, and began to invest time into taking care of her looks.. (The reason why Sissi, who vows to get what she wants by her own means, begins to embellish herself in the scene that follows the conflict with death after the ultimatum) Sophie believed that her daughter-in-law was finally doing something right by working hard to attain the image befitting the empire but Sissi, who decided that she had to be stronger than Sophie, was one step ahead of her.. And those who wished to go against the Hapsburg’s rule began to support Sissi more than her mother-in-law…

No one would, not even as a passing, vague thought. Because they would feel the worst urges possible if that ever happened…
Not only does Sissi get her son, her own flesh and blood, taken away from her by her overpowering mother-in-law, who is even called ‘the last man in the palace’, but even Joseph, the sole person Sissi felt she could trust as she was grappling with straws to keep her life going,, even Joseph went and had a physical relationship with a woman who had a venereal disease. How could he live wholly after finding out… The venereal disease scene makes my blood boil so much, it’s so degrading and disgusting that it makes me want to throw up..

At the emperor’s summer home, when Joseph falls for Sissi and the two begin their rose-colored romance, a family member asks Sissi, “Do you love Joseph?” to which she wittily replies, “I truly love him so much. But if only he wasn’t an emperor.”
Do you remember the part where Sissi sings -If only you weren’t an emperor, we would be happy”- as he enters her room after the wedding~?!
This is the behind-the-scenes story of that part^^

We can’t even find an image of Sissi’s “teeth” in her many portraits.
They say that we can’t find a single portrait of Sissi showing her teeth as she smiles because she had crooked teeth, the only flaw that the beautiful woman possessed…
