JYJ sang new songs during their concert yesterday and one of these songs is entitled “Pierrot” (which means a white-faced clown with a white costume and pointed hat, and is often represented as sad or crying). Reading the lyrics of the song, I believe this is a song dedicated to SM Entertainment and Avex. :) I definitely love the message of the song!

I also find Pierrot a good song title. It’s so metaphorical, haha. I wish they’ll release a studio recording of this song. Or better yet, just release a DVD of the Worldwide Concert, I’ll definitely buy one. :)

I was thinking along the lines of maybe JYJ wanted to develop in ways that SM is restricting them hence the breakup. And it’s true an artist should do what an artist wants, not what the market wants. It’s good they’re moving to fit the definition of artists, instead of being produced, not that I don’t like the song choices SM chose for the 4th album (if DBSK never had any say in it).
I can understand a little how they feel. I actually like art on a very shallow level, I tend to make it either because I want to (re)create something that “I” like. But in my art course, we are graded on techniques, originality and concept. So I actually have to BS some meaning to my art. It was difficult because there is pressure to meet some sort of expectation that’s NOT “my” goals. It’s happier when I’m just creating art for myself.
To comment on “Pierrot”, I sort of like the melody of the music, the piano at the beginning. At first I thought they were saying something about a piano (misheard pierrot) and I started to look into the meaning. And the background twinkling melody made me think it was some very light music but the message is totally contrasting, like the music is trying to mask the release of frustration of finally breaking out from a cage. I expect the lyrics to be sung with more force because the translation seem to reveal anger and frustration (with terms like what a joke!, dirty) the whole song was still fairly light.
This line “In front of me, my bro. in front of money, I’m nothing” at first didn’t make sense to me but I totally get it now. The literal meaning is you (SM?) treat us like we’re brothers (like we care about your feelings and your art) but underneath it all, you consider money (or “wise” business decisions that lead to greater profit) over me(my decisions, my artistic input, my goals?).
I’m still interpreting the lyrics. What’s “Don’t try to measure it up with fortune or misfortune for this extend” or “p.s.m.”?
