Kim Junsu, “I Was Supposed To Be In Sendai When The Earthquake Hit”
“If we had followed my stubborn opinion and gone to Sendai…” Kim Junsu recently revealed that he might have become a victim of the tsunami that hit Japan on March 11st, had he followed his original intentions.
Four days before the earthquake hit, Kim Junsu flew to Tokyo for a five day trip to film for a project. His original plan included filming a portion of his project in Sendai, a city that was greatly affected and damaged by the earthquake.
Kim Junsu has liked the seascape of Sendai since his days as a member of TVXQ. As a region one can go to enjoy the hot springs, he strongly recommended Sendai to the staff as a place to visit during the filming of the project.
However, after much deliberation, the staff made the verdict that Sendai didn’t match the concept of the project and they had to convince Kim Junsu to stay in Tokyo to wrap up their work.
Though Kim Junsu longed to go to Sendai, he decided to accept the decision made by the experts. This meant that he was in Tokyo when the earthquake hit the eastern coast of Japan.
Kim Junsu thought back on his experience and said, “Everything was shaking violently,” and “It’s scary to think of what could have happened if I had been stubborn about going to Sendai.”
He was able to get a ticket back to Korea the next day, which required much effort, and was able to attend the fanmeet he was scheduled to appear in. He has also donated 600 million Won to World Vision with his fellow JYJ members to help those affected by the earthquake and tsunami.
