101219 JYJ – ‘TVXQ only holds meaning when all 5 of us are present’

‘We’re so excited and touched, although it’s actually somewhat laughable that we got so emotional over being able to go on Korean TV as Korean singers. All we wanted was to be able to see our fans…’

The above were the words of JYJ members Jaejoong (24), Yoochun (24) and Junsu (23) from an interview on the 16th in Yeouido.

Since filing a lawsuit against their management company SM Entertainment, the three released a worldwide album entitled ‘The Beginning’ in October and began their activities as a 3-member unit through concerts and fanmeetings. However, not only has the KFCPAI sent out official letters of request to broadcasting stations requesting the prevention of JYJ promotions, SM has also expressed concern over their activities.

Due to issues with attaining work visas in the USA, free showcases had to be held in the US this November.

‘When we found out that our US visa applications had been denied, we knew we were faced with a crisis and a challenge, but since we’d already made promises to our fans, there was no way we could cancel the shows. In the end we decided change them into free shows. Our crew over at the US were incredibly touched by our sincerity and determination, so it all turned out well.’

When asked whether or not the lyrics in ‘Pierrot’ (‘In front of me, my bro. in front of money, I’m nothing’) were directed towards SM, JYJ replied ‘It is a song we wrote whilst thinking back to the days of our debut. When were still rookies, acts of social pressure such as compulsory education and abuse of rights was still prevalent. In terms of freedom being restricted, different people have different interpretations.’

With regard to the other members releasing a new album and promoting as Dong Bang Shin Ki this coming January, JYJ said ‘Obviously we want them to be successful in their activities, but the name ‘Dong Bang Shin Ki’ only has meaning when all 5 of us are present. On those grounds, it is somewhat regretful. Our group is named ‘JYJ’ and we do not have a leader; we feel that our separation is merely the result of our current situation. One day, we will be together again.’

Having given honest, genuine answers when discussing issues revolving SM and broadcast companies, the three reverted to their usual playful selves when asked everyday life. When the topic of their hobbies and ways of spending free time came up, Jaejoong replied ‘I hung 50 baubles to decorate my Christmas tree,’ and Yoochun revealed ‘recently (we’ve) been making fun of Junsu a lot but he doesn’t really get mad’

When the three 24 year olds were asked about their plans for Christmas, Jaejoong said ‘If I had a girlfriend, I’d like to go on a date with her holding hands, but I guess right now the only thing I can do is go out for soju with the members and our manager?’ Yoochun and Junsu chimed in ‘Soju is best with sausage. Let’s go and eat sausage.’

JYJ express their thoughts about the lawsuit and American promotions

June 2009 witnessed one of the biggest controversies in K-pop history, as three members of TVXQ – Jaejoong, Junsu, and Yoochun – decided to withdraw from their agency, SM Entertainment, and file a lawsuit against them for being locked in ’slave’ contracts. Soon after, a new trio was formed under the name ‘JYJ‘, who have been actively promoting their new worldwide album, ‘The Beginning‘.

When the three were asked about their decision to walk a different path, the members confessed that they’ve been so busy that they could only concentrate on their JYJ schedules.

Yoochun explained, “For a while now, we’ve been going back and forth between Korea and Japan for promotions. We had concerts in both countries, as well as our individual activities. We didn’t want to think about other issues, which is why we put in effort to keep ourselves preoccupied.”

Feeling that SM Entertainment was causing them undue suffering during their time as TVXQ, the trio finally put their foot down last year and made the weighty decision to withdraw from the company. During the difficult time of their lawsuit, they had only each other for support. But that’s not to say that they didn’t have something to fill their void before meeting with their current agency – the boys had activities with their Japanese agency, AVEX, up until the end of last year.

Jaejoong reflected, “It’s still the same now, but we never had an opportunity to voice out our perspective, and we tried to be really careful. This was during the time when there were all sorts of rumors going around in Korea. In that kind of situation, it was difficult for us to willingly approach news reporters ourselves. It was a situation when just one comment could become a huge misunderstanding and receive criticism, because saying anything would have hurt a lot of people. It was only afterwards when the legal proceedings were complete that we could finally begin to talk.”

After their promotions in Japan, JYJ finally decided to release a new meaningful album titled, ‘The Beginning’. However, due to circumstances with their visas, the trio had no choice but to hold free-entry showcases for their fans in the U.S. Fortunately for JYJ, their misfortunes later turned into a blessing.

Junsu recalled, “We couldn’t even imagine that so many fans of different races would come to our concert. It was a sight that you could only see at concerts from pop stars like Michael Jackson, where fans of all ages came to watch. In the beginning, there were a lot of people who looked at us with blank faces because they didn’t know the songs. But later on they started to move their bodies and get into the groove, even praising us with a thumbs-up. It was definitely a different feel from our fans in Asia.”

Having free showcases allowed them to expose their music to a wider range of people. Well-known, global producers such as Kanye West helped produce three of their tracks, including ‘Ayyy Girl‘, ‘Empty‘, and ‘Be My Girl’. Other songs in their album were produced directly by the members themselves: ‘Still in Love’ was produced by Jaejoong, ‘I Love You’ by Yoochun, and ‘I Can Soar‘ by Junsu.

Jaejoong elaborated, “They are all tracks in the traditional pop sense. This is something we were trying for the first time, but at the same time, we weren’t trying to change our style. We wanted to turn back to the origins of music. We went to America to personally work with producers. During that time, Yoochun was filming his drama and probably had a really difficult time.”

The members expressed that they would like to keep concentrating on their States-side activities. Junsu concluded the interview with some final thoughts on their American career: “We haven’t even officially released our album in America, as it’s only sold on iTunes for now. We heard that our song was picked by readers of Billboard as one of the ‘Top 10′ songs of the year – we came 5th. Seeing Kanye West and Lady Gaga getting 10th and 7th respectively, we were very surprised.”

Self-luminous Kim Jaejoong and Xiah Junsu’s Secret Date?

TVXQ and JYJ member Kim JaeJoong (Hero JaeJoong) posted a picture of himself and Kim JunSu (Xiah Junsu) inside a car.

Just recently on Kim Jaejoong’s personal twitter, he tweeted ‘I’m sorry, Junsu-yah…’ together with the picture.

In the picture Kim Jaejoong is seen wearing black sunglasses and showing a white face, proving he has his own light shinning. Even wearing the sunglasses and with the picture being slightly shaky, there was no doubt left about his stunning beauty (?). Next to him, Xiah Junsu can be seen head down devotedly. His outer appearance is not as visible as Kim Jaejoong but still his artist vibe can be felt.

When netizens saw the picture they responded ‘Youngwoong Jaejoong is a self luminous.’ ‘His shining beauty can’t be hidden even at a picture’ ‘Junsu-yah, show your front side!’

JYJ had a fansigning event yesterday in five cities in Korea. JaeJoong sported a new permed hairstyle (just like his hair in their “Survivor” MV) and was wearing sunglasses. According to him, there’s something wrong with his left eye that’s why he wore sunglasses. I just hope his eye is ok now. =)

Also, it was revealed during the fansigning event that Junsu forgot his password on Twitter that’s why he was nowhere to be found on Twitter the past few days. Good thing somebody helped him retrieve it. LOL.

And if any of you is wondering why we rarely see tweets from Yoochun these past few weeks, well the evil boy said he was not tweeting on purpose. Bad Chunnie! Maybe he wants us to miss him! Hahaha.

Fan’s Good Book Choice has Jaejoong Tweeting Late at Night

(Jaejoong) A book I received today ..it’s a good book..thoughts, true feelings and the surrounding environment give birth to words different from before, and many truths and results come from those words. And they also give birth to many misunderstandings. At the beginning, everyone has the same essence, but it may be that it changes due to its surrounding environment.. It may be that, that is what has happened to me.. I find myself looking back on myself and my surroundings late at night (3:35am KST)
